What FCL and LCL mean
FCL (Full Container Load) means you book an entire container for your cargo. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your goods share a container with other shippers and are consolidated and deconsolidated en route.
The break-even point
As a rule of thumb, once your cargo reaches roughly 13–15 CBM, FCL often becomes as cheap as — or cheaper than — LCL, while reducing handling and risk.
- Choose FCL for larger volumes, fragile or high-value goods
- Choose LCL for small shipments and flexible timing
- Consider FCL to minimize touch points and damage risk
